What does it mean to define yourself as an artist seeking to complicate categorisation? Here’s a brief attempt: Bilal’s work is often invested in what lies in-between, unsaid and obscure, operating at the intersections of being Queer, South Asian, Brown and Muslim. Through Interweaving documentary practises, their work is all about questioning and countering, concerned with the materiality of lived experience and its potential to create space for human connection and relationality.
